From Fuck Yeah Kirby!
From a 1990 Comics Journal interview.
From a super-long but rich discussion of Kirby’s adaptation of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Jim Steranko’s adapation of Outland. I have not seen either of these movies.
Aw hell, some Jim Steranko in there too, just because the whole thing is on-line. I didn’t even know it existed!

Waitwaitwait, Metron joined the New Mutants?!
His mutant power is having incredibly blocky fingers. It’s not as useful as you’d think.
Dig the ergonomic version of the Mobius Chair, too! Very early 80′s IKEA – I think my parents had one just like it, except for traveling across time and space.
Actually, come to think of it, Metron’s posture and expression remind me of co-blogger Eric Minton.
Kinda similar head, yeah… :)
I love how in the western pic, the young woman Angel looks like she’s trying to decide whether to whether or not to rip your liver out with her bare hands, or merely to drive your nose into your brain with a palm-heel strike.
Angel looks madder than a pole cat fightin’ a whistle-pig, pardner, but apparently is of the masculine gender. Took me by surprise too.

(Apparently Angel is the focus of one of the best-regarded collaborations between Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, Boys Ranch 3. Considering this is the team that created Captain America, that’s impressive.)
